Monday, November 22, 2010 10:06 AM |Senior Advisor of the National Nuclear Energy Agency (Batan), Dr Henry Purwanto, points out, Indonesia allowed to build 30 more nuclear reactors because it has great potential supported geological factors and raw materials are adequate.
"Every province in Indonesia mimiliki potential to build nuclear reactors since the raw material lots and geologically quite supportive," he said in Pangkalpinang on Monday.
He explained that currently there are three new nuclear reactors in Indonesia, namely in Serpong, Yogyakarta and Bandung, with power around 90 Mega Watts.
"The reactor has a power of 30 Watt Megawa for agriculture and health, while for nuclear could reach 10 thousand Mega Watts for a single reactor," he said.
He said the Koreans are the vast country is only a quarter of three Java can have as many as 20 nuclear reactors, and China has built 30 reactors.
"While Indonesia has only had three small-scale reactor, but allows each province to build a nuclear reactor," he said.
He explained that nuclear power is very cheap energy, not prone to contamination and to build a Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is to provide an area of 25 hectares.
"Babylon has been established nuclear power plant site in West Bangka Regency, this province will be faster progress if the NPP had built," he said.
According to him, pros cons of nuclear power plant and a fear society because of ignorance about the importance of this energy.
"If the PLN has supported fully by the PLN and of course they manage it professionally," he said.
Until now, it continues to push the government to build a nuclear power plant and expects each province has a nuclear reactor to be more quickly developed and advanced.
