Close Haitian airport As Violence Spreads

Thursday, December 9, 2010Haiti has closed the airport, the airport Wednesday when post-election violence rocked the Caribbean country with the clashes that have left at least four people dead.
Some officials at the airport in Port-au-Prince said all air transport hub in the country have been closed when thousands of people rallied in cities in the country following the announcement of election results last November.
United States airlines, American Airlines, has suspended flights to and from Haiti on Wednesday and Thursday after the barricades set up in the capital and clashes erupted between rival political supporters.
"The airport and company officials could not reach the workplace," said spokeswoman Martha Pantin, based in Miami. "We continue to monitor the situation and expects to recover as quickly as mungkn."
Air Transat Canada, which usually do peberbangan weekly to and from Port-au-Prince, Haiti to serve the people who grew up in Montreal, has suspended flights until Thursday because of "security reasons", said spokesman Pierre Tessier.
